Philips Hue Smart Bulbs Will Stop Working With Nest Products Soon

Google's continued slow migration from Works with Nest claims another victim, albeit temporarily. Philips Hue's Wi-Fi-controlled smart light bulb was one of the first to be integrated with Nest. As of November 17, all products integrated with existing Nest will be discontinued.

The change is part of Google's integration of Nest into the sluggish Google Home ecosystem, which will only be temporary.

A New Home for Your Nest

This is Google's latest attempt to integrate its smart home devices into a single Google Nest brand. All existing Nest users will need to link their Philips Hue account to the Google Home App to access any current features.

The news was announced to Nest users via a message in the Philips Hue app:

Google is transitioning its ‘Works with Nest’ programme to the ‘Works with Hey Google’ programme. Related to this, Philips Hue integration with Nest Thermostat, Nest Cam and Nest Protect will be discontinued from November 17, 2020.This will only be temporary, as Google is building existing Works with Nest features into the Google Home app. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Google has announced that no new Works with Nest integrations can be implemented after August 31, 2019, but any existing integrations will remain in effect. Next week's change is likely to ern the validity of any previous claims, and Nest users will need to migrate regardless of how old their account is.

The switch affects nest thermostat, Nest Cam, and Nest Protect styles, regardless of the old Nest account. Google claims that many of the functions that Philips Hue users enjoy will switch to the Google Home app in time, although no specific list of features is expected.

The transition from Nest Activity to Hey Activity is less attractive than Google may be being rushed under new plans for Google Home app integration and the arrival of the $129 Nest Thermos.
