The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G Laptop Debuts Ahead of CES 2021

Lenovo has announced the latest editions of its IdeaPad range in the build-up to CES 2021, including a 5G-enabled version. Lenovo is no stranger to launching new products at CES. It launched two new laptops last year at CES and has now given us a preliminary look at what its latest laptops for 2021 will look like.

The big news is that the release of IdeaPad is refreshed. We won't get the full specifications table until next week, but that doesn't mean we don't know enough to get excited.

Notable features include 5G. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor and based on a Snapdragon X55 modem, Lenovo IdeaPad now has the potential to connect to the fastest 5G networks under 6GHz in the world.

The 16:9 14-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and can display brightness up to 300 nits as sRGB. It comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of PCIe SSD.

Since IdeaPad uses an 8cx processor, there is no need for a fan, so it is especially quiet to use.

Battery life is also a big plus. Lenovo said it can handle 20 hours of video play play back. That overshadows many other models on the market, but it remains to be seen whether independent testing verifies the manufacturer's claims.

USB-C charging is available and the entire device weighs just 2.6 pounds, making it easy to carry around. Windows Hello is supported via IR cameras.

At the time of writing, Lenovo has not yet confirmed the sale price.

The IdeaPad Pro and 5i Pro Are Also Available

Lenovo is also bringing 14 and 16-inch versions of the IdeaPad 5 Pro and IdeaPad 5i Pro to market.

The two laptops are almost identical except for the processor. The previous one will use AMD's latest Ryzen 5000 mobile processor, the following will be based on the 11th generation Intel Core processor.

Both laptops have a 16:10 screen ratio, support for 6 Wi-Fi, up to 16GB or RAM, and up to 1TB of SSD storage. The battery life is 15 hours on the 14-inch model and 13 hours on the 16-inch model. Both have infrared cameras for Windows Hello and two Dolby Atmos 2W speakers.

We know the IdeaPad 5i Pro will cost €699 or €899, depending on the screen size. Costs in the United States have not yet been announced.

The IdeaPad 5 Pro will cost $1,150 for a 16-inch screen and will be available in U.S. stores from May 2021. The 14-inch version costs €799 and will be available in Europe from March 2021. Again, prices in the US or release date have yet to be revealed.
